Jon "J.R." Meyers
Senior Partner

It is with heartfelt respect that we honor the life and legacy of J.R. Meyers, our beloved Senior Partner, mentor, and friend.

J.R. was not just a driving force behind The Meyers Group—he was the heart and soul of our firm, a man whose vision, dedication, and passion shaped the success we enjoy today.

Jon R. Meyers (J.R), Senior Partner of The Meyers Group LLC, was a distinguished leader with a Juris Doctor and more than 16 years of senior management experience in both public and private enterprises. His career was marked by extensive experience in running and winning political campaigns, showcasing his strategic brilliance and deep understanding of the political landscape.

For over five years, J.R. served as the Chief of Staff to Council Member Yvette Alexander (Ward 7), who chaired the Committee on Health. In this role, he managed three Ward campaigns for Councilmember Alexander and led two citywide campaigns for prominent figures—Robert Bobb, former DC City Administrator, and A. Scott Bolden, now Managing Partner at Reed Smith LLC. J.R.'s campaigns were noted for their innovative use of polling to drive mailings, field strategy, and fundraising.

Earlier in his career, as Assistant to the Chief of the Office of Specialized Services for Chicago Public Schools (Chief of Staff), J.R. was part of a team that had oversight of an $800 million division, providing critical wrap-around services to 500,000 children in the Chicago Public School system. His leadership extended to the role of General Manager for SCR Transportation, one of the largest para-transit providers in the country, where he successfully supervised drivers, call center staff, training programs, and vehicle maintenance.

J.R.’s diverse experiences and accomplishments made him uniquely qualified to provide solutions to both simple and complex client problems across the sectors of health, education, development, transportation, and politics. His ability to navigate these fields with expertise and grace was a hallmark of his career and contributed significantly to the success of The Meyers Group.

J.R. was a native of San Francisco, California, and a proud alumnus of Morehouse College, where he earned his BS. He went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from the Walter George School of Law. J.R. was also a devoted husband to Karen Mays Meyers, a Spelman graduate and Managing Partner of The Meyers Group. Together, they built a life rich in love and partnership. Their daughter, Nina Simone, a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy (class of 2014) and current student at Spelman College, continues to carry forward the legacy of excellence that J.R. exemplified.

As a friend, J.R. was known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. His ability to connect with people on a personal level made him a cherished confidant and a trusted advisor. Whether offering words of wisdom or simply sharing a laugh, J.R. had a unique way of making those around him feel valued and supported.

In the professional realm, J.R. was a solutions-driven partner whose commitment to excellence was unparalleled. His strategic insights and innovative approaches were instrumental in guiding The Meyers Group to new heights. Clients and colleagues alike respected J.R. for his integrity, his keen understanding of the political landscape, and his relentless pursuit of success. He was a man who saw challenges as opportunities, always ready to lead with clarity and purpose.

J.R.'s legacy is one of perseverance, integrity, and a deep commitment to the values that he held dear. His leadership has left an indelible mark on The Meyers Group, and his spirit will continue to inspire us as we move forward. While we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we also celebrate the life he lived and the countless lives he touched.

We invite you to join us in remembering J.R. Meyers—a husband, father, friend, and partner whose memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
